Only one individual survived this catastrophe—Kalervo’s son, Kullervo. Untamo, seizing the opportunity, took it upon himself to raise the orphaned boy as his own. As Kullervo matured, his formidable strength and rebellious spirit made him a formidable and often dangerous figure in the community. The local villagers, fearing the threat he posed, sought to eliminate him permanently.
