In response, Adilshah declared war on Shivaji Maharaj and seized control of the strategic Panhala Fort. Despite multiple efforts, Shivaji Maharaj was initially unable to reclaim the fort. Adilshah then appointed the ruthless Beshakh Khan as the fort’s guardian, whose unlawful and immoral actions directly challenged Swaraj and posed a significant obstacle to Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation. Overcoming Beshakh Khan and recapturing Panhala Fort became a matter of great honor for Shivaji Maharaj.
